Specialist: General English
I have a varied employment history; however, the skills and experience I have gained, has given me the confidence to recognise, that, a particular ability I have; is to develop and maintain relationships with others, this has been hugely important as my career has progressed; it is very rewarding to create a good rapport with my students, and see the students’ confidence grow, as their ability to communicate in English improves.
I first undertook an online TEFL qualification and travelled to India for an extended holiday; this is where I met my first EFL (adult) student, whom I helped successfully prepare for IELTS examinations; armed with more confidence and enthusiasm, I applied to International House in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and undertook a CELTA qualification. Since completing my CELTA I have worked for various organisations; Hertford College, Oxford, River House Academy, India, Concorde International, UK, English in Action, Europe; in addition to private clients; I have conducted individual and group tutorial sessions for children, and adult students learning English as a foreign language. I teach pupils of all levels of language proficiency, present English language clearly and serve as a linguistic model.
During my time working for English in Action, I have been promoted to senior teacher; I am valued for superior communication skills; in addition to administration, teaching and managing staff, I coordinate with local teacher’s and schools, to ensure best practice, and that expectations are being met.
About my sessions
In my teaching career I have taught students of all levels and abilities with a mix of ages and diverse language backgrounds creating activities tailored to student’s needs, based on their interests and learning styles. Having a creative background helps me to design interesting, engaging lessons, which easily function on multiple platforms.
My outgoing nature is invaluable for engaging students online, using TPR, props, songs and playfulness. In addition, my style of tutoring is student centred, communication focused and high energy. I use a wide range of resources with context based communication and authentic materials being highly valued in my lesson planning and implementation.
One of my great strengths is that I am able to build a good rapport with my students and I have the confidence and initiative to help pupils fulfill their potential, coupled with an open-minded and determined attitude to motivate and inspire. My aim is to give students a well-rounded and complete in-class learning experience. By incorporating different teaching techniques, students will never quite know what to expect; the desired outcome being that they stay fresh, enthusiastic and motivated because they are aware each class has new activities and fun learning adventures in store. No classroom is the same, and each student is unique, so I ram always flexible in my approach to the needs of the student.
